“Yeah…” She panted as the mid wife instructed another push and she did such. It was a painfully long half hour of pushing and crying till the baby started to crown.
“Almost there m’lady. One more push ought to do it!” The midwife chirped as Chiyo screamed out with one final push. The baby was out and was immediately cleaned as its umbilical cord was cut. “Oh come on you thing, scream.” The midwife huffed, slapping the infant on the rear before it let out a shriek. “There we go.” She handed the baby to Chiyo. “Congratulations m’lady. You’ve given life to a son.”
Kurogane leaned in to look at the baby once it was in Chiyo’s arms. It was so small and pink and its thin hair stuck to its head and its eyes were shut tight and its fingers and toes were so tiny and it was his son…it was his and Fai’s son… “Arata…”
Chiyo smiled at the name. “A perfect name for your son. Fai chose it, didn’t he?” Matsu helped her wrap the child in a blanket.
“You did good Chiyo.” Matsu kissed her forehead.
“He looks like you. I wonder if he has your eyes.”
