Fai did so and laid next to Kurogane under the blankets, snuggling in close to him. “Good night my love.”
Month after month passed, and summer turned to fall, then winter, and finally spring. At the end of each month, Kurogane left Suwa to visit Chiyo and check up on the baby. It was now his ninth and final trip, and he was planning to return home with a child this time. The large cherry blossom tree in the middle of the manor garden had just started to bloom, and Kurogane looked up at it as he finished packing the bags on his horse and securing them tightly.
Fai was watching him. As much as he wanted to be at Chiyo’s side when she gave birth, he needed to maintain the barrier and to handle any kind of business that should arise during Kurogane’s absence. “Be safe, my Lord and take good care of her.”
“I will.” Kurogane tightened the last strap, and when he was finished, he went to Fai and kissed him. “I’ll make sure both of them are safe.”
“Alright. I’ll see you soon.” He kissed him back. “I love you Kurogane.”
